24/6/2019 Visit: Robin Hood's Bay

The breathtaking Robin Hoodís Bay is probably one of the most photographed locations in the world - you canít miss it when visiting this part of the world.

The breathtaking Robin Hood’s Bay, situated near the iconic town of Whitby on the coast, is probably one of the most photographed locations in the world - you can’t miss it when visiting this part of the world. Leave the liveliness and the buzz of the Yorkshire coastline behind when visiting this town; here, brooding cliffs tower over a huddle of red roofed former fishing cottages that spill right down to the edge of the sea, creating a ‘lost in time’ getaway feel. Make sure you have plenty of energy for that steep street snaking down from the clifftop to the beach at the bottom, lined with lovely cottages, shops and cafes, which seems even steeper on the way back up!

This picturesque old fishing village on the Heritage Coast of the North York Moors is a fantastic place for adults and children alike with a beautiful family and dog friendly beach, as well as rock pools to explore and ancient fossils to discover. There's something here for every kind of visitor - walkers, families, couples, cyclists... this is one small town for everyone to enjoy.

New in 2017 is the mosaic on the parapet wall overlooking the sea, believed to be one of the longest in the country and depicting the timeline of events in the Bay, from the Jurassic period to the present day, including fossils, smuggling, shipwrecks, stops and wildlife. Wandering through the narrow cobbled streets and alleys, you can easily imagine the sailors and fishermen, smugglers and press gangs that walked these streets hundreds of years ago. Today it is a vibrant village with a wide range of cafes, pubs, restaurants, small shops and places to explore.

Robin Hood’s Bay also has its share of music events and festivals going on! Early June sees the town’s Folk Weekend festival of music with raffles, live music and exhibitions. December hosts a Victorian Weekend - an annual event celebrating the Victorian era with costumes, competitions, games and crafts. Read more about it here.
You can even take a Ghost Walk! For more information, take a look at the Robin Hood’s Bay page.

There is so much to do in Robin Hood’s Bay for such a tiny place. Get there from Crows Nest through Scarborough, and head up the A171 towards Whitby. Be sure to pay it a visit, it’s a must-see!
